Creating Respectful & Inclusive Workplaces – (4 hours)

Training Date: Company Cohort-based: By Request; Next Public Virtual Workshop: Nov 13th, 2025

Delivery Format: Online-Live, In-Person, Cohort, In-Community

Workplace bullying and harassment incidents are real and often under-reported issues — not only among staff and management, but sometimes even involving clients, suppliers and other partners int he community. In community service and non-profit environments, where relationships and trust are central to your mission, these behaviours can be particularly damaging to team cohesion, service delivery, and psychological safety.

This workshop is designed specifically for supervisors working in community serving organizations and non-profits across BC. It recognizes the unique pressures and dynamics of these workplaces, and the vital role supervisors play in fostering a culture of respect, inclusion, and accountability within the workplace. During the workshop participants will explore:

– Core concepts of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and why they matter in your sector;
– How to recognize workplace behaviours that may signal bullying or harassment — and how to differentiate what bullying is and is not;
– The complexities of bullying when it involves power dynamics among staff, leadership, or clients;
– Effective communication and enforcement of respectful workplace policies;
– Practical steps for reporting, investigating, and documenting incidents;
– How to lead with fairness, impartiality, and integrity;
– Recognizing and addressing bullying behaviour from supervisors themselves; and
– How to ensure your team feels safe from retaliation when concerns are raised.

Supervisors will leave this session with the tools and confidence to actively support a respectful, inclusive, and psychologically safe workplace — for both staff and clients.

Douglas College - Training Group

Training Group is a Douglas College department that provides a wide variety of training and development options for individuals and organizations. We support supervisors and teams in BC’s community service sector to grow, lead, and thrive. Our expertise lies in the “people side” of organizational development—this includes complex areas like communication, collaboration, service delivery, change management, workplace culture, relationship-building, and staff engagement. These human-centered challenges are at the heart of community-based work, and our training helps organizations strengthen the skills that matter most for sustainable impact.

All of our sessions use a “Learning by Doing” approach, where participants actively engage with their peers through real-time, hands-on exercises. These may include role-playing, scenario-based problem-solving, group presentations, and other interactive activities designed to reflect the realities of working in nonprofit and community settings.

Training is flexible and can be delivered on-site at your organization, at any Douglas College campus, at another convenient location in your community and even virtually for convenience.
