BC Social Care Training

BCsocialcaretraining.ca was created as part of the Supervisor Training Project, an initiative to enhance supervisor training within BC’s social services sector. While this website is launching with a focus on supervisor training, it is designed to expand over time to accommodate a broader range of social care training opportunities. This approach ensures that we can extend funding and support ongoing workforce development in the sector.

Supervisor Training Project

The Supervisor Training Project addresses the growing need for skilled leadership in social services by leveraging funding from the Labour Market Development and Care Economy funds. Guided by insights from the Social Services Labour Market Research Project (August 2020) and the Community Social Services Training Fund report (September 2022), this initiative is designed to support organizations in strengthening their supervisory workforce.

Project Goals

✔ Provide structured training for up to 150 agencies with opportunities for collaboration in training delivery.
✔ Develop a sustainable strategy for ongoing supervisor training and professional development in collaboration with sector and government stakeholders.

By investing in high-quality learning pathways, we aim to train social service supervisors, build leadership capacity, and create a lasting impact beyond the funding period.

Funding for this project was secured by the Social Services Sector Roundtable Reference Group, provided by the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, and supported by ASPECT BC.

Key Competencies

To ensure the training we support is grounded in real sector needs, we conducted a province-wide consultation with 276 social service agencies across British Columbia. Through surveys, interviews, and collaborative discussions, we identified the most in-demand competencies for supervisors in social care roles today.

This research shaped the framework for both the Supervisor Training Grant and our Training Database, and it continues to guide how we engage with trainers, employers, and professionals.
