The BC Social Service Sector plays a vital role in addressing systemic inequities and supporting thriving communities. Yet, one of the most underrepresented and misunderstood groups in our workforce—people with disabilities—remains overlooked. Despite making up at least 27% of working-aged adults in Canada, people with disabilities continue to face significant barriers to employment and inclusion. With 25% of the current workforce expected to retire by 2035, and our labour market becoming increasingly diverse, building workplace capacity around equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) is no longer optional, it’s essential. Disability inclusion isn’t just a moral or legal imperative, it’s a strategic advantage. Research and practice show that inclusive workplaces are more engaged, innovative, and resilient. This workshop positions disability not as a challenge to accommodate, but as a critical driver of workplace culture, capacity, and sustainability.
