Delivery Format: Online-Live, In-Person, Cohort, In-Community

In BC’s non-profit and community service sectors, supervisors are often tasked with onboarding and training new staff quickly — sometimes under urgent, high-pressure circumstances. With limited time, high caseloads, and complex service delivery models, it’s easy for new hires to feel overwhelmed and for supervisors to feel like they’re “training on the fly.” The result? Information overload, inconsistent performance, and burnout on both sides.

This workshop is designed specifically for supervisors who need to develop and deliver effective in-house training — fast, but without sacrificing quality. It focuses on practical, efficient training strategies that help your team members absorb, retain, and apply essential knowledge and skills — whether you’re onboarding new hires, rolling out new procedures, or addressing performance gaps.

In this session, you’ll learn:
– How to structure training that’s clear, focused, and digestible — not overwhelming;
– Adult learning principles and how they apply in fast-paced workplace training;
– Tools for delivering training in bite-sized, repeatable formats that build long-term retention;
– Strategies for combining hands-on practice with clear policy and procedural instruction;
– How to assess learning in real-time and adjust your approach as needed; and
– Simple tools for documentation, evaluation, and follow-up that supports accountability and growth.

This workshop will help you move beyond “sink or swim” onboarding and equip you with practical methods to grow confident, capable team members — even in the face of time constraints and resource challenges.

Douglas College - Training Group

Training Group is a Douglas College department that provides a wide variety of training and development options for individuals and organizations. We support supervisors and teams in BC’s community service sector to grow, lead, and thrive. Our expertise lies in the “people side” of organizational development—this includes complex areas like communication, collaboration, service delivery, change management, workplace culture, relationship-building, and staff engagement. These human-centered challenges are at the heart of community-based work, and our training helps organizations strengthen the skills that matter most for sustainable impact.

All of our sessions use a “Learning by Doing” approach, where participants actively engage with their peers through real-time, hands-on exercises. These may include role-playing, scenario-based problem-solving, group presentations, and other interactive activities designed to reflect the realities of working in nonprofit and community settings.

Training is flexible and can be delivered on-site at your organization, at any Douglas College campus, at another convenient location in your community and even virtually for convenience.
